National Medical Manager
Job summary
The National Medical Manager provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for all medical services within the AHF Ghana Country Program. S/he reports to the Country Program Manager. The position ensures delivery of high‑quality HIV care and treatment across all supported facilities through strong clinical governance, effective supervision of clinical teams, collaboration with government counterparts, and adherence to AHF and national standards. The role also provides strategic oversight of the medical supply chain to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential commodities.

Key Responsibilities:
Medical Leadership and Program Oversight
- Serve as the senior medical authority for the country program, providing strategic oversight of medical operations across all regions and ensuring alignment with AHF clinical standards
- Ensure program coordination with Prevention, M&E, and Operations teams.
- Drive program growth and quality through site expansion, client retention, and technical input into national HIV policies and alignment with international guidelines.
- Prepare and submit required programmatic reports to AHF, donors, and government stakeholders.
Clinical Service Delivery
- Provide and oversee high-quality clinical services during site visits, ensure linkage to care, service integration and patient flow monitoring.
- Maintain a minimum of 20 clinical service hours per week.
- Manage clinical and laboratory systems by overseeing sample referral networks.
- Ensure timely collection, validation, and use of clinical and program data. Supervision, Mentorship, and Capacity Building
- Provide supportive supervision and mentorship through routine site visits, onsite coaching, and technical assistance using AHFapproved tools, dedicating at least 50% of work time to field activities.
- Strengthen clinical capacity and quality by leading CME activities, case conferences, peer reviews, and journal clubs, while promptly addressing clinical emergencies, staff performance issues, and patient complaints.
Clinical Quality Improvement
- Ensure high clinical quality across all supported sites by enforcing national and international standards, leading QA/QI initiatives, clinical audits, performance improvement plans, and supporting SOP and guideline development and implementation.
- Use clinical and program data to drive evidencebased decisionmaking while promoting operational research, innovation, and a culture of continuous clinical excellence.
Human Resources Management
- Lead recruitment, credentialing, induction, and performance management of medical staff by setting performance goals, conducting appraisals, supporting succession planning, and ensuring adequate staffing levels across all supported sites.
Supply Chain Oversight
- Oversee forecasting, procurement, and distribution of medical commodities to ensure uninterrupted availability of drugs, diagnostics, and consumables while strengthening LMIS functionality and reporting.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead AHF’s technical engagement with the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, NACP, and key partners by actively participating in national technical working groups and building strong relationships with government, donors, communities, and stakeholders.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience:
- Medical Doctor with valid registration from the Ghana Medical and Dental Council.
- Minimum 10 years clinical experience, including at least 5 years in HIV care and treatment.
- At least 2 years program management or health systems leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience in quality improvement and stakeholder engagement.
- Must be legally resident in Ghana.
