Role Description The Hyper-Local Genre A&R role is a remote, contract position focused on discovering, onboarding, and supporting independent artists within specific local scenes and genres. In this role, you will research emerging talent, attend virtual events and monitor online platforms to identify promising artists, and evaluate their fit for RhythmX Distro’s catalog. You will build and maintain relationships with artists, provide feedback on releases, and guide them through the distribution process. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing demos and releases, tracking local genre trends, collaborating with internal teams on promotional opportunities, and sharing insights on market developments. You will also help strengthen RhythmX Distro’s presence in key local music communities by engaging with artists, collectives, and influencers aligned with targeted genres.
Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of local music scenes and genre-specific trends, with the ability to identify emerging artists and niche communities.
  • Experience in A&R, artist scouting, or talent development, including assessing musical quality, artistic potential, and audience fit.
  • Skills in relationship building and communication, with the ability to work effectively with independent artists, collectives, and partners.
  • Comfort with digital tools and platforms used for music discovery and distribution (e.g., streaming services, social media, dashboards, and data analytics tools).
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, contract environment, manage multiple projects, and deliver timely, organized reporting.
  • Background in music industry, creative arts, marketing, or related fields is preferred but not required; relevant experience may substitute formal education.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in artist selection and support, and respect for a wide range of musical styles and cultures.
