Job Overview
The HRBP – Ghana is responsible for leading, governing and executing the HR strategy in Ghana and other assigned West African markets ensuring alignment with business objectives, country HR frameworks and local labour legislation.
The role provides strategic and operational HR leadership, manages country HR, drives employee relations excellence, ensures regulatory compliance, and builds a high-performance, compliant and engaged workforce across the region. The incumbent acts as a trusted advisor to local leadership, balancing standardisation with local market realities.
The position will be based in Accra, Ghana and regional travel across West Africa as required
Mian Responsibilities
Local HR Strategy & Leadership
- Provide strategic HR guidance to senior leadership on organisational design, workforce planning and people risk.
- Drive HR maturity across Ghana markets while respecting local cultural and legislative differences.
Employee Relations (ER) & Industrial Relations
- Lead complex employee relations matters, including disciplinary processes, grievances, disputes and terminations.
- Provide expert advice on labour relations, union engagement and collective bargaining where applicable.
- Ensure fair, consistent and legally compliant handling of ER cases across Ghana and neighbouring countries.
- Mitigate people-related risk through proactive ER strategies and manager capability building.
Compensation, Benefits & Rewards
- Assist with annual remuneration reviews, salary benchmarking and incentive schemes.
- Ensure compliance with statutory benefits (pensions, social security, medical, taxes) across all countries.
- Partner with Finance to manage payroll governance and benefits cost optimisation.
Talent Acquisition (TA) & Workforce Planning
- Provide strategic oversight of local talent acquisition and workforce planning initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with local employment, immigration and localisation requirements.
- Recruitment for all positions.
Learning, Training & Development (L&D)
- Support leadership, management and technical development programmes.
- Assist with succession planning and talent development for key and critical roles.
- Ensure compliance with country-specific training levies, learning authorities and skills regulations.
Performance Management & Culture
- Support leaders in setting objectives, conducting performance reviews and managing underperformance.
- Drive a culture of accountability, engagement and high performance.
- Monitor engagement trends and lead improvement initiatives.
HR Operations, HRIS & Reporting
- Lead the effective use of HRIS platforms, data integrity and system optimisation.
- Produce accurate, timely and insightful HR reports and dashboards for regional stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy and record-keeping requirements.
Compliance, Labour Law & Governance
- Ensure full compliance with Ghana laws.
- Ensure alignment with global HR policies while adapting to local legal requirements.
Onboarding, HR Generalist & Ad-hoc Support
- Oversee local onboarding and induction programmes to ensure effective employee integration.
- Provide generalist HR support across the employee lifecycle.
- Handle ad-hoc HR projects as required by the business.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Organisational Psychology, or related field.
- Postgraduate qualification in HR, Labour Relations or Business Management (advantageous)
- Professional HR certification preferred (e.g., CIHRMG, SHRM-CP or equivalent)
- Minimum 6–10 years’ progressive HR experience, with at least 3–5 years in a senior or regional HR leadership role
- Proven experience managing teams across multiple West African countries
- Strong working knowledge of the Ghana labour laws and HR practices
- Experience operating in multinational or matrix organisations
- Demonstrated capability in employee relations, compliance, compensation, performance management and HR operations
