HEALTH & SAFETY TECHNICIAN

Reports To: Health & Safety Manager
About the Role
Our client is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Health & Safety Technician to support the implementation and maintenance of workplace health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards. The successful candidate will assist in promoting a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, conducting inspections, supporting incident investigations, and coordinating safety training and awareness initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine workplace inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of the organisation's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with local health and safety regulations, company standards, and industry best practices.
- Assist in carrying out risk assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and safety audits.
- Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses, documenting findings and supporting corrective actions.
- Monitor the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and enforce safe work practices.
- Deliver or coordinate safety inductions, toolbox talks, and employee safety awareness programmes.
- Maintain accurate HSE records, inspection reports, incident logs, and compliance documentation.
- Conduct fire safety inspections and assist in emergency preparedness drills and evacuation exercises.
- Monitor housekeeping standards to ensure work areas remain clean and safe.
- Support environmental compliance initiatives, including waste management and pollution prevention where applicable.
- Liaise with supervisors and employees to resolve safety concerns and promote continuous improvement.
- Participate in internal and external HSE audits and assist with implementing audit recommendations.
- Monitor contractor compliance with site safety requirements where applicable.
- Stay updated on relevant occupational health and safety legislation and industry developments.
Requirements
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional HSE certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, ISO 45001 Internal Auditor, or an equivalent qualification is an advantage.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Health & Safety, HSE, EHS, or Occupational Safety role.
- Good understanding of occupational health and safety regulations and risk management principles.
- Experience conducting safety inspections, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
- Knowledge of emergency response procedures and fire safety practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Strong report writing and documentation skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong observation, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to influence safe behaviours and work effectively with employees at all levels.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
