The Fleet Operations Manager, will lead and oversee the company’s transportation, fleet operations, commodity haullage, mechanized farm equipment operations and logistics revenue optimization across the company’s operations. The role requires a highly independent, technically competent and commercially minded professional capable of managing people and assets in rural operational environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fleet Operations Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of all company-owned vehicles and machinery including, pick-up vehicles, cargo trucks, heavy-duty trucks, tractors and farm equipment and motorbikes.
- Coordinate and schedule vehicles digitally for commodity aggregation, haulage, staff field trips, guest transportation and farm mechanization services.
- Use digital fleet management tools to monitor fuel consumption, mileage, maintenance schedules and operational costs.
- Ensure all feet assets are digitally tracked, roadworthy, insured, licensed and compliant with regulatory requirements.
- Lead incident investigations relating to accidents, misuse, breakdowns or operational failure and enforce operational discipline.
- Transport & Logistics Coordination
- Lead commodity transportation operations from aggregation points to district warehouses and final delivery destinations.
- Coordinate haulage schedules and dispatch planning for company-owned trucks and third-party transporters.
- Plan routing, load optimization, dispatch scheduling, and delivery timelines.
- Collaborate with warehouse, business development, and field operations teams to align transportation activities with business needs.
- Establish strong relationships with logistics vendors, fuel suppliers, mechanics, and transport service providers.
- Plan seasonal deployment schedules for mechanization services aligned with farming calendars.
- Revenue Generation & Commercial Transport Management
- Identify and secure third-party transport opportunities when company trucks are idle.
- Develop transport revenue generation strategies for company-owned trucks.
- Team Management
- Supervise and manage all drivers, tractor operators and other team members.
- Conduct quarterly performance reviews for team members.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, defensive driving standards, company transport policies and vehicle inspection protocols.
- Develop driver schedules and manage leave coverage arrangements.
- Lead regular transport safety meetings and toolbox sessions.
- Support the recruitment and onboarding of team members.
- Operational Leadership
- Develop systems, SOPs, and operational controls within operations.
- Identify opportunities for operational efficiency and cost reduction.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives within logistics and fleet operations.
- Support strategic decisions regarding fleet expansion, replacement, and asset investments.
- And any other duties that may be assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATION
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Transport Management, Operations Management or related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in fleet management, agribusiness logistics, international trade, rural operational environments or any related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years in a managerial or supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of heavy-duty truck operations, commodity aggregation and agricultural value chains.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to manage field-based operational teams.
- Adept communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong negotiation skills and commercial transport management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in fleet management software.
- Advanced skills in Google Workspace, especially Google Sheet.
- Expertise in agricultural machinery operations.
