The role: Engineering Manager

We are hiring a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead day-to-day delivery across our Flutter mobile app and TypeScript backend. You will report to our CTO, who sets technology direction, and work alongside our Software Architect, who owns our architecture and engineering standards. You will also work closely with product, design, and the founders.

What you will do

• Own end-to-end delivery of the engineering build: turn product goals and designs into a reliable, secure product, from planning and implementation through testing, monitoring and ongoing improvement, working with our CTO on technology direction and our Software Architect on architecture and standards.

• Lead, support and develop the engineering team through regular one-to-ones, clear feedback and fair planning of each person's workload.

• Plan and run sprints with clear goals, and keep delivery tracking current so that every piece of work has a priority, an owner and a target date.

• Report progress, risks, and trade-offs to the leadership team in plain language.

• Stay hands-on: Take part in code review alongside our Software Architect.

• Make sure the team follows our engineering standards for code quality, testing and continuous integration, working with our Software Architect, who sets them.

• Plan and track the delivery of partner integrations, from sandbox testing through to go-live.

• Support security and compliance practices in a regulated financial services environment, including secure development, change control and incident response.

• Work closely with product and design to turn ideas and designs into well-scoped, deliverable work.

• Mentor engineers and help them grow, including onboarding new team members.

• Help us hire the engineers we need as the team grows.

What you bring

• At least 7 years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 2 years leading a team of engineers in a product company.

• Hands-on experience with our stack: Flutter and Dart, TypeScript and Node.js, Firebase and Google Cloud.

• Experience in fintech, payments or banking, ideally including integrations with payment or banking partners.

• A track record of agile delivery: planning sprints, managing a backlog and shipping reliably and often.

• Sound secure development practice and good judgement about code that handles money and personal data.

• Clear, calm communication with non-technical leaders, partners and engineers.

Nice to have

• Python and FastAPI, or BigQuery and data pipelines.

• Experience with credit, lending or financial data.

• Experience building or testing product features that use large language models.

• Experience of ISO/IEC 27001:2022 or SOC 2 audits.

• Knowledge of financial regulation in Ghana, including work with the Bank of Ghana or the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Working arrangements

• Full-time, with a 3-month probation period

• Based in Ghana, hybrid working. Applicants outside Ghana are welcome to apply.

• Reports to the Chief Technology Officer

• Competitive package, based on market rates for this level
