Our mission is to provide “Cutting edge medicine and advocacy, regardless of ability to pay” The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Ghana Country Office requires the services of a driver for its headquarter and field offices. In this role, the driver contributes to AHF’s mission by ensuring safe, timely and reliable transportation of AHF-Ghana staff and logistics, keeping vehicles in clean and good mechanical condition, ensuring correct and efficient implementation of Fleet Policy for AHF-Ghana and ensuring all relevant documentation and emergency tools kit for AHF vehicles are in place, which is essential for the whole program. AHF requires the driver to work collaboratively rather than exclusively with the entire team to help improve policy and procedures that ensure successful operations of the organization and enhance the care provided to our clients.
Job descriptions & requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for transporting staff and logistics at AHF Ghana HQ as well as field teams as required.
- Responsible for the mechanical/technical state of the assigned vehicles.
- Maintain vehicles in clean, roadworthy and safe conditions always through routine daily/weekly checks.
- Ensure prompt maintenance of vehicles: registration, insurance, fuel cards, logbooks, and the equipment and papers that should be in each vehicle. Inform the Operations Officer about the state of these issues.
- Reports damage, problems, and tears immediately to the operations officer.
- Keep vehicle/travel logbooks updated and available in all vehicles.
- Immediately solves basic mechanical problems and follow up with approved workshop/garages to check on the quality of any work done on vehicles. Inform the Operations Officer of the need for different services.
- Ensure availability of stock of spares and lubricants, needed to repair minor breakdowns.
- Ensure the fuel tank is always maintained at 2/3 full and in vehicles with 2 tanks at least one full.
- Ensure prompt completion of vehicle logbook including registering quantity/km. each time refueling is done.
- Check and document the fuel level in vehicles before and after refueling.
- Keep an inventory of tools required in the vehicle. Be sure that the minimum equipment required is inside the car and is in proper condition.
- Fire extinguisher.
- Spare tire and a tool kit in good order.
- First aid box
- A folder with required documents (Insurance, driving permit, logbook)
- Hand torch with spare batteries.
- Ensure driving license validity and right class to drive assigned vehicle.
- Ensure all the passengers are using the safety belt prior to moving the assigned vehicle.
- Adhere strictly to road traffic regulations including respecting the speed limits for Ghana in town and on the highways.
- Coordinate available fleet, and communicate the need for maintenance, repair, replacement and disposal of fleet vehicles to the Operations Officer.
- Assist office operations through, but not limited to, collecting and facilitating incoming and outgoing couriers (cheques, financial reports, paying utilities’ bills) between AHF office and the accounting firm and banks.
- Assist the Office Administrative Assistant in managing the AHF HQ front-desk by supportingmanagement of visitors, storing and sorting incoming mails.
- Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience:
- Minimum of Secondary/High School Certificate
- Certificate in vehicle mechanics with a valid driving permit of minimum class type C.
- Five years driving experience with an NGO, corporate organization or a similar institution.
- Good knowledge of local routes and road networks in Ghana.
- Basic knowledge of mechanics and vehicle maintenance.
- Good knowledge of driving techniques.
- Basic knowledge of record keeping and vehicle log keeping.
- Able to speak and write English.
