Mission/ Core purpose of the Job:

The role of Controller - API & New Business, assists the line manager in managing external developer communities, implement API roadmap - releases, configurations, usage and performance tracking within the OpCo. It also supports the management of new business verticals like Digital Currency, Digital Banking, Open Banking and other future opportunities. Additionally, it coordinates, the management of Fintech innovation from MML partners including – MNOs Fintechs, FSPs, Governments etc., and any other disruptive innovation. Assists in value co-creation, revenue generation, building robust partnerships and keeping customer experience top of mind in all product design.


The responsibilities include managing a variety of stakeholders to deliver connectivity in accordance with MML platform and API business model to achieve the shared vision and goals.


The role reports to Manager – API & New Business


Context:

Digital currency, digital banking, open banking among others are technology led transactional exchanges between people and various entities and are backed by digital payment systems/platforms which facilitate the transactions, challenging current payments methods. The rise of Fintech has led to a significant growth in digital payments and other financial services, fintech firms employ cutting edge technologies to provide innovative solutions that challenge conventional banking systems. As a key player in deploying connectivity to the payment platform, this role effectively enhances fast and agile integration to the MML environment.


Fintech is entering a new phase where operational and commercial excellence has become critical for success. Mobile Money LTD is a subsidiary of MTN to drive financial products and services to expand the reach and speed of operations.

Key Tasks:


  1. Explore opportunities in future payments and other technologies in new areas such as digital currency, digital banking, open banking and other future trends in the Fintech space.
  2. Provide inputs and support the development and implementation of Fintech API strategy, in line with Group and OPCO API strategy, and lead its implementation.
  3. Organize developer community and support end-to-end management of 3rd party – onboarding, integration, handling, throughout the connectivity and partnership process including the sandbox.
  4. Support in conducting detailed analysis and managing external engagements with developer communities including consolidating developer feedback to inform API roadmap, taking into consideration developer challenges and opportunities to drive stickiness for MML Open API.
  5. Assist in planning and preparing business sessions with Fintech, Banks and other partners in collaboration with the line manager, the Commercial Team and other stakeholders - identify key risks, issues and dependencies and set mitigation actions.
  6. Provide reports in accordance with the measurement metrics as set by Line Manager, review, and provide feedback metrics relating to performance of the API product such as usage and revenue, activity, among others.
  7. Support in building strong sustainable relationships with all partners – Fintechs, banks/insurance companies and 3rd party service providers, ensuring transparency, clear delivery processes and to build trust in the partnerships.
  8. Liaise with all stakeholders internally and externally to constantly improve the partner onboarding experience and design innovative ways to improve processes and add value in the delivery value chain.
  9. Support end-to-end advance services solutions - ideation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of all new products/services.
  10. Lead in products concept documentation, business cases, customer journey mapping/flows, UATs and GTM deliverables for all digital channels.
  11. Manage the product lifecycle and execute strategies to expand and extend MML APIs.
  12. Other tasks and duties, as assigned.

  1. Participate in strategic meetings.
  2. Support function wide transformation initiatives. Elicit inputs from relevant parties, when required.
  3. Implement adequate risk mitigation and controls, with directions from the SM Payments.
  4. Perform evaluation baseline of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and KPIs.
  5. Manage approval process from Line Manager on new initiatives.
  6. Facilitate preparation of proposal on change initiatives SLA, policies, and procedures.

Minimum Requirements -

Education:

  1. Minimum Bachelor Academic Degree with MBA/Masters
  2. 2-year degree in Computer Science, Engineering and Commerce
  3. A strong foundational in technical skill is paramount.


Experience:

  1. Minimum 2 to 4 years relevant experience in a similar position.
  2. Experience in Fintech, banking or financial services is mandatory.
  3. Experience working in a global/multinational enterprise with a good understanding emerging market
