Job Description/Requirements
We are looking for an enthusiastic and eager-to-learn commis chef to join our kitchen team. This role is perfect for culinary students, recent graduates, or anyone passionate about gaining hands-on experience in a professional kitchen environment. You will have the opportunity to learn from experienced chefs, contribute to daily kitchen operations, and be part of a team that values education, creativity, and excellence.
Responsibilities
- Kitchen Support
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of dishes under the guidance of the Head Chef and other senior kitchen staff.
- Perform basic kitchen tasks such as washing, peeling, cutting vegetables, and preparing ingredients.
- Ensure that the kitchen is clean, organized, and well-stocked, adhering to food safety and hygiene standards.
- Learning and Development
- Participate in hands-on training and mentorship from experienced chefs, gaining practical skills and knowledge in various culinary techniques.
- Assist in the preparation of mise en place and learn the importance of organization and timing in a professional kitchen.
- Observe and support the execution of cooking classes and workshops, learning how to communicate culinary concepts to students and guests.
- Operational Tasks
- Assist in receiving and storing deliveries, ensuring proper stock rotation and freshness of ingredients.
- Support the kitchen team during service, ensuring dishes are prepared and presented according to the hub's standards.
- Help with cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment, utensils, and workstations to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
- Team Collaboration
- Work closely with the kitchen team, contributing to a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Participate in daily briefings and debriefings, sharing insights and feedback with the team.
Qualifications
- A genuine passion for cooking, innovating with local ingredients and a desire to learn and grow in a professional kitchen environment.
- Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen operations is a plus.
- Ability to follow instructions and work well in a team.
- Strong work ethic, punctuality, and a willingness to take on tasks as needed.
- Good communication skills and a positive attitude.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Enrolment in a culinary program or recent graduate is preferred, but not mandatory.
