ASSISTANT CIVIL RELIABILITY ENGINEER
Position: Assistant Civil Reliability Engineer
Division / Department: Operations & Maintenance (OM) / Natural Gas Pipeline (NGP)
Location: Western & Ashanti Regions, Ghana (West Africa)
Report Directly to: Civil Reliability Engineer
Designation Level: Entry Level
OBJECTIVE:
The Assistant Civil Reliability Engineer will support the identification, assessment, and management of civil and structural risks that may impact the integrity, safety, and reliability of the Natural Gas Pipeline and Stations. The role focuses on assisting with inspections, maintenance, rehabilitation, and monitoring of pipeline right of way (ROW), station infrastructure, and civil installations to ensure safe and reliable operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE (OM)
- Support the reliability and integrity of all civil and structural components across the pipeline network and gas stations:
- Assist with monitoring and maintaining ROW conditions to prevent erosion, encroachment, and environmental degradation.
- Support rehabilitation activities along the pipeline ROW.
- Assist with identifying exposed pipelines due to erosion, washouts, or third-party activities.
- Support implementation of erosion control and slope stabilization measures.
- Assist with identifying and resolving drainage issues along pipeline corridors and gas station facilities.
- Support drainage improvement activities to prevent flooding and soil instability.
- Assist with maintenance of culverts, channels, and stormwater systems.
- Support maintenance of concrete foundations, access roads, and equipment support structures.
- Assist with inspections of structural installations and civil facilities.
- Report structural defects such as cracks, settlement, and subsidence for corrective action.
- Assist with monitoring soil conditions, subsidence, and ground movement along the pipeline.
- Support mitigation activities for washouts, unstable terrain, and erosion-prone areas.
- Support environmental protection initiatives related to civil works.
- Preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
- Routine inspections and condition monitoring of civil assets.
- Rehabilitation and maintenance activities for aging infrastructure.
- Erosion, washouts, and exposed pipelines.
- Flooding and inadequate drainage systems.
- Third-party encroachment on pipeline right of way.
- Structural degradation of station facilities.
- Assisting with analysis of recurring civil-related issues and failures.
- Supporting Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and corrective action implementation.
- Assisting with recommendations for erosion control systems, drainage improvements, and soil stabilization measures.
- Ensure safe access to pipeline and station facilities through proper civil maintenance support.
- Ensure all civil works comply with safety standards and permit-to-work requirements.
- Maintain accurate inspection and maintenance records in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Perform additional tasks assigned by the Civil Reliability Engineer or Reliability Superintendent.
PROCUREMENT AND LOGISTICS
- Coordinate with procurement and warehouse teams to support the availability of materials and services for civil maintenance activities:
- Assist with identifying material requirements for civil maintenance and rehabilitation works.
- Support preparation of purchase requisitions and procurement tracking.
- Assist with monitoring the availability of materials for planned and emergency civil works.
- Support vendor and contractor coordination for civil maintenance activities.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's in Civil Engineering or a related field
- A minimum of 0–3 years of experience in civil engineering, preferably within oil & gas, pipeline, or infrastructure projects.
- Basic understanding of pipeline right-of-way (ROW) management and rehabilitation activities.
- Familiarity with drainage systems, erosion control, and geotechnical principles.
- Understanding of safety and environmental requirements for pipeline operations.
- Ability to work within multidisciplinary operations and maintenance teams.
