About the role
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing and managingend-to-end accounting, consolidation and financial reporting across Ghana operations. He or She ensures timely and accurate financial reporting, compliance with local statutory requirements and group internal accounting principles & policies. The role also covers process optimization and effective financial controls & reconciliations, while acting as a key interface between local finance teams, regional leadership and corporate headquarters. The position is based in Tamale, Ghana and reports the Head of Finance and Admin.
Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & close management:
- Lead and coordinate monthly, quarterly and annual accounting close processes in Ghana.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of general ledger.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of balance sheet reconciliations including treasury accounts, inventory & fixed assets.
- Review and approve P&L analysis and financial transactions in general.
- Drive adherence to IFRS standards, group accounting policies and internal controls.
Statutory & Regulatory Compliance:
- Oversee preparation of year end activities and filing of statutory financial statements in accordance with local regulations and IFRS.
- Ensure compliance with local GAAP, legal and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with corporate tax, VAT, withholding tax, property tax, and other statutory.
- Maintain legal and business compliance reports and ensure proper follow-up to guarantee business continuity.
- Monitor regulatory changes and assess impact on financial reporting.
Inventory Management, Pricing & Billing:
- Monitor and analyze inventory levels.
- Drive visibility into inventory position, valuation and losses.
- Support inventory management policies and ensure accurate valuation in line with accounting standards.
- Manage pricing & billing process.
Data transparency and cost control:
- Ensure cost awareness and data transparency
- Improve data quality, automation and reporting efficiency.
- Establish and maintain transparent cost structure across the value chain.
- Analyze cost per ton, yield variances and logistics costs.
- Support the implementation of standard costing, cost allocation and variance analysis frameworks.
- Track cost drivers and explain variances.
- Maintain cost overview reports for country.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements
- Evaluate the current and future development of business exposure.
- Manage Cash flow planning/funding and prefinance process.
Decision support:
- Support complex accounting areas (revenue recognition, leases, FX, provisions & depreciation, stock valuation and billing…).
- Support the preparation of budget and various forecasts.
- Support reporting system implementations or upgrades
- Support investment appraisals, capex proposals, business cases and development projects.
- Support country manager in managing the finance/accounting people/practices.
- Assist functional teams in administrative tasks
- Support finance team in various tasks where necessary.
- Support system implementations and upgrades.
Internal Controls & Governance:
- Ensure compliance and effective implementation of group internal controls, Code of Conduct and Delegation & Authority.
- Support internal and external audits and timely closure of audit findings.
- Strengthen financial controls and data accuracy in complex, multi-currency environments.
- Drive risk identification, remediation and continuous improvement.
- Drive standardization, automation, optimization and documentation of processes and controls.
- Maintain legal and business compliance reports and ensure proper follow-up to guarantee business continuity.
- Oversee use and optimization of ERP and accounting systems.
- Ensure all key company documents are securely stored, properly organized and maintained in designated shared folders with appropriate access controls.
Leadership, Team & Stakeholder Management:
- Provide coaching and technical guidance to finance resources.
- Act as the key interface between the Head of Finance and Admin and the accounting team.
- Promote a strong cost
control culture in Ghana
About you
1. Master’s degree in accounting, Finance or related fields.
2. Professional accounting qualification (ICAG, ACCA, or equivalent).
3. Minimum 4-5 years of relevant experience in accounting, financial reporting & process optimization.
4. Know IFRS environment
5. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and experience in West Africa (or developing countries).
6. Having experience in logistics and operations in the agriculture industry, manufacturing or commodity-based environments would be preferred.
7. Good knowledge of Ghana’s tax regulations, VAT requirements, and GRA compliance
8. Proficiency in accounting software; experience with ERP systems is an advantage.
9. High attention to detail and accuracy in financial data processing and record-keeping.
10. Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
11. Discretion and integrity in handling confidential financial information.
12. Good communication and team working skills.
13. Proficient in Microsoft
Excel and Word.
