For the past years, all the jobs I have had the opportunity to be interviewed for, were through referrals. And luckily for me, I get the job after 2 or 3 interviews.
And it’s been a great experience so far with the companies I have worked with. But currently, I find myself in a situation where I have to look for a new job.
I know these days employers have resorted to digital means of recruitment and that finding a job has become a bit easy for job seekers like myself. I have friends who found jobs online via your platform but it seems there have been others who also had very bad experiences with online job applications. In that, they got defrauded in the process and I am currently afraid to apply to jobs I find online.
Now to my question, how do I know a job ad is scam?

Finding a job online has now become the norm. In this era of digitization, scammers are aware of the fact that people like you are desperately in need of a job. They therefore, find your desperation as a weakness, thereby luring you into applying to fictitious jobs being advertised online.
These scammers pretend to be legit employers and advertise fake jobs on credible online job portals.
Most often, it is difficult to spot or identify fraudsters who post fictitious jobs on credible job sites, because these fraudsters are able to provide all the necessary information and credentials needed to advertise job roles on these job portals.
Some of these fraudsters go to the extent of creating a website in order to be seen as legit to the public.
So, it is adviceable that job seekers pay attention to the job descriptions and details when applying for jobs online. Here Are warning signs of a job scam.
1. Fake Job Offer
Have you ever received an offer letter from a company that you knew very well that you did not apply to any job in that company? This is a sign of a scam job. If you get such offers, do not entertain them.
This is one of the many ways scammers trick job seekers into paying unreasonable amounts of money for the promise of a job.
2. You Are Asked to Make Payment
Ideally, jobs are not to be offered at a fee. Job offers are free. So as a job seeker, take note of this and be mindful of so-called recruitment agencies who demand that you pay an amount of money in order to schedule you for an interview or to secure you a job in a particular company.
No legit company would ask a jobseeker to pay money in favor of a job offer. It is wrong. If any company or recruiter requests that you make payment, this is a sign of a scam job.
Sometimes these scammers use trainings to deceive job applicants. In the early stages of the recruitment process, they lure jobseekers to pay money for trainings which may seem relevant to the job seeker but in reality, nothing of that sort exist. This is scam.
3. The Salary is Too Good to Be True
Better money compensation plays a higher role in why people consider job offers. But, in your quest to seek for better opportunities, be careful in whom you deal with or the oportunities that seem so enticing and too good to be true. As a professional looking for a job, you should at least have a fair idea of the average salary for your job and experience level.
In the situation whereby the salary seem so outrageous, this is surely a sign of a job scam. Do not apply.
