Shipping Manager

Job Description

We're looking for an experienced Shipping Manager to oversee the importation of wheat and export of flour products. Manage logistics, ensure compliance, and optimize shipping processes.

Key Responsibilities

Import/Export Operations

• Coordinate wheat shipments from origin to Ghana ports
• Manage documentation (L/C, BL, COO, etc.) and customs clearance
• Ensure timely delivery of wheat to processing facilities
• Ensure vessel berth on arrival
• Maintain good relationship with port key people (Harbour master, Chief Pilot etc)
• Ensure target discharge rate is achieve
• Ensure assessment of duty is in line with declared value.
• Ensure all customs documents are complete before vessel arrival
• Must understand customs bonded warehousing

Logistics & Planning

• Plan and track shipments (sea, land, inland transport)
• Optimize shipping costs and vessel/space booking
• Liaise with shipping lines, agents, and local transporters

Compliance & Risk

• Ensure compliance with Ghana customs, port regulations, and trade laws
• Manage risks related to shipping delays, cargo damage, or non-compliance.

Stakeholder Management

• Work with suppliers, shipping agents, clearing agents, and internal teams
• Resolve shipping-related issues and communicate updates to management

Reporting & Optimization

• Track KPIs (e.g., vessel turnaround, costs, demurrage)
• Provide regular reports and suggest process improvements

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field
• 5+ years in shipping/logistics (preferably in agri-commodities)
• Knowledge of Incoterms, shipping docs, and Ghana trade regulations
• Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills

Key competencies

• Experience with wheat/flour supply chains
• Knowledge of chartering and bulk cargo handling
