Quality Assurance Manager, Fon Packaging
Job descriptions & requirements
About Fon Packaging
At Fon Packaging, we believe that the integrity of our products is the foundation of our brand. We are seeking a meticulous and proactive Quality Assurance (QA) Manager to oversee our quality control systems, ensure compliance with industry standards, and lead a culture of continuous improvement.
As the QA Manager, you won’t just be "checking boxes"—you will be the primary advocate for excellence, ensuring every corrugated box, flexible film, or sustainable container that leaves our facility meets the highest level of structural and aesthetic precision.
Key Responsibilities
System & Compliance Management
- Establish & Maintain QMS: Lead the implementation and upkeep of quality standards such as ISO 9001, and where applicable, BRCGS (for food packaging) or ISO 15378 (for primary packaging materials).
- Audit Leadership: Coordinate and lead internal audits, third-party certification audits, and client-led site inspections.
- Regulatory Oversight: Ensure all materials comply with local and international regulations (e.g., FDA/EFSA for food contact, REACH for chemicals, and environmental sustainability mandates).
Production & Process Control
- Testing Protocols: Define and oversee rigorous testing for packaging integrity, including:
- Compression and burst strength.
- Ink adhesion and colour consistency (Delta E values).
- Barrier properties (moisture/oxygen transmission).
- In-Process Inspections: Develop "First Article" inspection procedures and hourly line checks to catch defects early in the printing, die-cutting, or glueing stages.
- Equipment Calibration: Manage the calibration schedule for all lab testing equipment and precision tools on the floor.
Supplier & Material Quality
- Vendor Qualification: Audit raw material suppliers (paper, resin, inks, adhesives) to ensure consistency before they enter the FON supply chain.
- Incoming Inspection: Establish clear "Accept/Reject" criteria for raw materials to prevent production downtime caused by inferior inputs.
Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
- CAPA Management: Lead Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) investigations. Use root cause analysis (RCA) tools like the 5 Whys or Ishikawa diagrams to resolve recurring defects.
- Waste Reduction: Collaborate with the production team to monitor scrap rates and implement Lean or Six Sigma methodologies to reduce material variance.
- Complaint Resolution: Act as the primary technical point of contact for customer complaints, providing detailed 8D reports and ensuring long-term fixes are implemented.
Leadership & Training
- Team Development: Manage and mentor a team of QA Technicians and Inspectors, ensuring 24/7 coverage across shifts.
- Culture Building: Conduct regular "Quality Awareness" training for floor staff to move from a culture of "inspecting quality in" to "producing quality throughout."
- Reporting: Prepare monthly Quality KPIs (e.g., Cost of Quality, Rework %, Customer Satisfaction) for the executive leadership team
