Abigail Akrong, a 29-year-old accounting graduate from Tema, believed she had everything she needed to thrive.
A Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting, the right skills and the drive to find a fulfilling job. But like so many young women across Ghana, she hit the same wall over and over again.
“Most of the roles I came across asked for more experience than I had. I knew I had the skills, but I kept getting overlooked. I had to start thinking about other ways to build my experience”, Abigail stated.
While Abigail was working at a hospital, she knew she wanted more. She was good at her job, but she really wanted to use her accounting skills in bigger ways. She was eager to build the future she truly desired.
That’s when she discovered a job opportunity through Jobberman Ghana, listed under the HAPPY Program that gave her a real shot – an accounting role in the retail industry that didn’t require years of experience to qualify. This turned out to be exactly what she needed.
In her new role, Abigail is responsible for recording daily sales and expenses, preparing financial reports, reconciling physical stock with financial records, processing payments and reporting directly to the business owner.
With a job that truly matches her skills and ambitions, Abigail’s life has transformed. She is now pursuing something she is genuinely passionate about and finding daily fulfillment in her work. This new chapter has significantly improved her quality of life, and she is incredibly excited for her future, confident in the path she is building.
“Jobberman Ghana, through the HAPPY Program, made the process smoother and less stressful. It gave me the opportunity to actually grow in my field”, she recounted.
Abigail’s story is one of many that inspired the SHE CAN campaign, an initiative designed to support women like her with training and formal job placement at no cost.
Abigail had the skills, she found hope, and now she’s empowered to be what she aspires to become, through the HAPPY Program.
Be like Abigail.
