Job Summary

Pencils of Promise is seeking a Ghana WASH program Officer who will be responsible for contributing to the delivery of all PoP Ghana’s water, sanitation and hygiene programming. This involves working with PoP’s existing WASH and Projects teams to distribute school specific WASH infrastructure, organizing and delivering high impact WASH Intervention workshops, teacher focused WASH workshops, and SHEP (school hygiene education program) Coordinator workshops for clusters of schools each academic term.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and implement WASH programming in conjunction with the WASH Team and GES
  • Conduct scheduled bi-monthly visits at assigned PoP partner schools in the WASH program to support SHEPs, teachers, students and the community
  • Support and provide feedback to SHEPs, incorporating strategies and methods shared during workshops as well as general knowledge, follow the assigned rubric for best performance
  • Lead and support Hygiene Clubs in all assigned PoP partner schools following all outlined topics and using provided behavior change tools
  • Create, develop and present materials for WASH workshops (with support from Programs Manager and Team Lead)
  • Facilitate WASH workshops where necessary
  • Update Salesforce regularly with the support of WASH Team and Programs Manager
  • Meet with assigned Coordinator bi-monthly to discuss successes and challenges
  • Assist with the distribution and use of PoP’s WASH materials and other resources
  • Stay up to date on best practices in the fields of WASH
  • Adapt generic WASH programming to meet the needs of specific schools and communities
  • Work with the Projects team to develop community specific WASH infrastructure as needed


Qualification and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or HND in Health, Science or a related field
  • 1-2 years or more experience in health, sanitation, hygiene, or related field
  • Experience working with and engaging KG and Primary aged children and teachers
  • Preferred knowledge of Microsoft Office and the internet
  • Self-motivated, ability to take initiative, and manage his/her own workload
  • Strong understanding of WASH issues in the Ghanaian context
  • Capable of explaining the need for WASH programming to schools, communities, and government officials as needed
  • Ability to evaluate a community’s specific WASH needs and adapt workshops to meet those needs
  • Thorough understanding of the Ghana Education Service system
  • Comfortable working in both an urban and rural setting
  • Strong Community mobilization and engagement skills
  • Creative thinker and problem solver
  • Ability to drive a motorcycle or readiness to learn

Compensation:

  • Commensurate with experience
