Job Summary

The refrigeration (reefer) technician will be responsible for maintaining, modifying, troubleshooting, and repairing of the refrigeration units and/or the cold-room systems as a whole by working together with the maintenance team. The candidate will be responsible for the operational maintenance of all the cold-rooms within the company by working with the preventive maintenance log. The candidate must be ready to be at the various sites according to schedule. Contact point by the customers to the company and must be ready to attend to job-related communications throughout the week and at odd hours (between 04:30 - 17:00).

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Adherence to Volta Catch policies applicable to their employment, that is, employee Code of Conduct which may include core values, ethics and appropriate standards of workplace.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting, general maintenance and repairs of reefer / chiller units.
  • Repair faulty air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and Plant.
  • Troubleshooting, general maintenance, preventative maintenance and repairs on auxiliary power units (APUs).
  • Ensure routine checks and servicing are carried out on the air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and complete the requisite status logs.
  • Troubleshoot air conditioning/refrigeration equipment malfunctions, diagnose problems and perform maintenance on equipment. Complete logs detailing works carried out inclusive of parts utilized.
  • Make recommendations to replace equipment, if expected cost to repair exceeds possible replacement cost.
  • Manage the safety of the air conditioning plant rooms and associated areas.
  • Be responsible for developing and creating ways to better monitor the cooling level of each cold-room / offices, to ensure that all room cooling temperature is maintained at the specific level required.
  • Routinely check offices to ensure that all the cooling systems vents and return vents are clean, well maintained and functioning satisfactory.
  • Responsible for the verification of refrigeration and air conditioning spares purchased/supplied and ensure that they are securely stored on the company’s premises.
  • Responsible for the requisition on materials required for the smooth operation of the refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment and ensure adequate materials are ordered.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Management
  • Work safely and follow company safety standards
  • Maintaining a hygienically clean and safe working environment by liaising with the necessary team members.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • An ordinary diploma or NVTI certificate in refrigeration and air-conditioning 
  • Five (5) years experience.
  • Should have a valid driving license.
  • Require to inspire individuals and teams to work towards visions and objectives and must implement cost effective modules and activities that enables the achievement of agreed objectives.
  • The candidate will assist in building the capacity of the team members of the preventive maintenance team with appropriate competencies, skills and manages work performance targets and outcomes including re-alignment on new protocols and standards.
  • Ability to analyze data, draw budget with basic knowledge of accounting.
  • A Problem solving individual and must be able to facilitate creative and innovative thinking at the organizational / business level who can use basic problem diagnosis method in solving problems at the site.
  • Must have self-confidence, sets standards of excellence through benchmarking and striving to achieve best practice at the depot.
  • Basic understanding of all the departments and the flair to train subordinates on new protocols.
