Postgres Quality Engineer

You will

• Design and execute performance tests to assess the scalability, responsiveness, and efficiency of Neon Postgres.
• Develop test plans, scenarios, and benchmarks to stress test the database performance.
• Analyze performance test results, identify bottlenecks, and recommend optimizations to enhance system performance.
• Collaborate with other teams to implement performance improvements based on test findings.
• Investigate and troubleshoot performance degradation issues reported by customers or detected internally.
• Analyze database metrics, logs, and query execution plans to identify the root cause of performance issues.
• Conduct in-depth performance investigations, including load testing, query profiling, and index optimizations.
• Assist customers with PostgreSQL-related problems, including database performance issues, query optimization, and troubleshooting database errors.
• Collaborate with the Engineering and Product teams to understand product requirements and provide input on performance-related considerations during the design and development phases.
• Participate in on-call rotations to handle and resolve critical issues.

We are looking for someone who has

• 5+ years of experience in a similar position (Database Engineer, DBA).
• Strong programming skills (preferably in Python).
• Ability to investigate and troubleshoot performance degradation issues, analyze database metrics and query execution plans, and identify bottlenecks.
• Experience in query optimization, index tuning, and system parameter tuning.
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively, and provide prompt and accurate solutions to the PostgreSQL-related problems.
• Understanding of database security principles and best practices.
• Experience with performance monitoring tools, query profiling, and performance analysis to identify performance bottlenecks and optimize database performance.
• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Eagerness to stay up-to-date with the latest PostgreSQL releases, features, tools, and best practices in performance optimization and database administration.
