Job Summary

The Nutrition Director will provide technical direction for all nutrition-related design work, implementation, and reporting across CNFA’s program portfolio. The position will lead CNFA nutrition programming and provide technical contributions for new business development initiatives. This position will also be responsible for developing in-house frameworks, tools, resources, and nutrition-sensitive strategy implementation across the organization. Additionally, this position will provide technical support and contribute to staff training and mentoring in areas including local food and market systems, nutrition-sensitive food system analysis, food systems transformation, etc. The Nutrition Director will also identify conferences and symposiums, to showcase CNFA nutrition systems and programming and represent CNFA where appropriate. The Nutrition Director will work in close collaboration with CNFA’s program, new business development, and communications teams and will require regular travel to the field in support of CNFA’s global nutrition and food systems project portfolio. This is a position based out of our DC home office.

Job Description/Requirements

Key Activities for this Role Include:

  • Provide input and support to program development in the design of proposals that integrate innovative approaches and best practices;
  • Maximizing impact of in-country nutrition and food systems projects by supporting in-country teams to implement approaches and developing core tools and guidance for best practices;
  • Drawing out the experience and evidence generated by field programming and identifying ways to disseminate across programs and externally as a contribution to the global evidence base; and
  • Provide input to communications team regarding visibility of CNFA’s nutrition expertise.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Technical Implementation

    • Provide technical oversight on nutrition-sensitive food and market systems program implementation;
    • Lead global strategic thinking on nutrition for the organization;
    • Support field teams to design and develop country level nutrition-sensitive activities;
    • Provide technical input into nutrition-related goals   and strategies for CNFA projects;
    • Design and support analysis of nutrition and food systems formative research and other assessments to inform programming;
    • Collaborate with Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Team to include nutrition in project evaluation;
    • Provide relevant technical direction to nutrition implementing partners on projects;
    • Lead nutrition-sensitive workshops for home office and field office teams;
    • Provide training and consultations to home office and field office employees as needed;
    • Participate in conferences, symposiums, and learning events
    • Develop success stories, case studies and other documentation of CNFA nutrition-related programming best practices; and
    • Facilitate the dissemination of global best practices to CNFA field staff and in field programs
  • New Business Development:

    • Design nutrition-sensitive interventions for agriculture development programs providing vision and leadership on nutrition related topics for competitive donor bids;
    • Support proposal development in concert with the New Business Development Team, analyzing and recommending bid decisions, and conceptualizing teaming, technical approaches, and cost strategies to maximize competitive advantage;
    • Serve as proposal technical writer for nutrition in close coordination with the proposal teams; and
    • Support resource mobilization for nutrition by identifying opportunities and cultivating partnerships in support of technical vision.


Qualifications:

  • Required Education and Experience:

    • MA/MS or PhD in a Nutrition, Food Systems, Public Health, or related field;
    • A minimum of 10 years of work experience in nutrition program design, implementation, evaluation; and learning;
    • At least 5 years of field experience, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa or Asia;
    • Experience with food security, agriculture, and market systems related programming and Title II programming preferred;
    • Experience designing and managing nutrition and/or public health surveys;
    • Experience in both quantitative and qualitative nutrition, social behavior change, and/or public health research required;
    • Experience with designing, implementing, and evaluating, social and behavior change approaches to improve nutrition; and
    • Experience leading workshops and trainings for staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Demonstrated experience leading successful international agriculture, health, and nutrition proposal design and development;
    • Strong working knowledge of donor (USAID, BHA, USDA, DFID, GIZ, WB, et al.) priorities and regulations;
    • Demonstrated experience with nutrition-related partnership or consortium building;
    • Ability to work in dynamic settings, under pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines;
    • Ability to work across diverse teams and cross-cultural settings;
    • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems in a timely and successful manner;
    • Accuracy, attention to detail and client focused with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team using a solution-oriented approach;
    • Ability to relate to and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders;
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;
    • Fluency in the French language or other second language (e.g., Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese) preferred;
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a fast-moving team;
    • Willingness to contribute at different levels required to achieve success;
    • Self-motivated and ability to work independently;
    • Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office suite;
