Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified individual to serve as Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Coordinator, to ensure that suitable M&E systems are in place to support the implementation of program activities. This will include process and tools development, data collection and analysis, reporting and learning/reflection processes, and some evaluation. The coordinator will assist programme and implementation partner staff in the use, adaption and reporting from tools and processes. The M&E Coordinator will function under the line management of the Africa Programmes Manager with matrix management from MEL global colleagues.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

Data management

  • Ensure credible data is collected from Africa programme countries and control famers, as per requirements in the Better Cotton Standard System.
  • Ensure data received from projects on farming practices is of good quality, clean and validated to feed into analysis.
  • Analyse agronomic, economic, and social indicator data, to ensure accurate referencing to regional contexts
  • Share the results of data analysis to facilitate Producer Units’ learning and encourage the continuous improvement of participating farmers.
  • Support Producer Units’ in understanding Better Cotton reporting tools and processes to ensure that deadlines are respected and to collect their feedback to ensure the continuous improvement of Better Cotton systems.
  • Provide necessary support for the online database (including management of the data, training of partners, and preparation of reports), providing support to partners and ensuring that relevant data of required quality is available to support claims on results and impact.
  • Coordinate data collection in remote countries and assist on the quality controls and adequate data management in coordination with Better Cotton Staff and local partners.
  • Assist organizing and managing 3rd party validation audits.
  • Support in Pilot implementation in Africa countries to produce measures to ensure tangible results and tracking of adoption of practice by SH.


Capacity building and support to partners’ staff

  •  Develop and deliver training modules around monitoring and evaluation tools, analysis tools, excel, and other data management tools.
  • Lead on capacity building trainings on MEL activities with Programme Partner staff.


Information and Knowledge management

  • Ensure seasonal data is updated and validated in Salesforce as per timeline
  • Ensure Result Indicator data is collected, cleaned and shared with global team as per timeline
  • Ensure Implementation quality assurance visits are conducted as per timeline, reports are generated, and corrective action is executed.
  • Providing required information to Membership Team, Programme Team and Supply Chain team as required.



Profile

The candidate will have the following Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:


Experience

Essential

  • 5+ years of work experience in a development program/project
  • Experience of large datasets management and analysis
  • Experience in leading studies (mix methodologies) from designing to report writing including 3rd party data collection audits
  • Experience in local staff capacity building
  • Experience in establishing M&E systems for sub grantees/ local partners
  • Experience of working in team and individually will be an advantage
  • Strong report writing skills


Desirable

  • Experience of working in the cotton sector
  • Experience of working in agriculture sector in Africa


Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Master’s degree, or equivalent higher education qualification or experience, in a relevant field
  • Demonstrated interest in sustainability and international development
  • Thorough knowledge in quantitative and qualitative data collection methods, analysis and data manipulation are essential
  • Expertise in Excel, understanding of Power-Bi will be an added advantage
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work independently, proactively, and in a collaborative manner with a team.
  • Excellent written and communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, and to assimilate and process information for wide-ranging audiences
  • Fluency in English and French (spoken and written). Portuguese desirable.
  • High proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook
  • Willingness to some travel in African cotton production countries, and occasionally overseas
