Job Summary

The Manager, Tax will oversee all the tax affairs of the Company and support the Company’s business and financial objectives by always ensuring and maintaining a fully compliant tax position. In this regard, the Manager, Tax will ensure the prompt and accurate processing and filing of the relevant tax returns and manage payment of the relevant taxes to the relevant tax authorities as and when due. He or she will liaise with the relevant tax authorities with the assistance of the Company’s tax consultants to ensure that all outstanding issues on open tax audits and investigations are closed and resolved speedily and efficiently. The Manager, Tax will, as much as possible, identify potential tax planning opportunities for the Company and work with the appropriate personnel of the Company to implement tax advice rendered to the Company by its tax consultants and advisers

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the Company’s tax compliance covering the filing of appropriate tax returns with the Ghana Revenue Authority, including, but not limited to, Corporate Income Tax, Value Added Tax, Withholding Tax, PAYE and all other employer-employee-related taxes, statutory contributions, levies, rates and assessments
  • Responsible for the prompt payment of all taxes, statutory contributions, levies, rates and assessments due to the GRA
  • Manage local tax audits, appeals and litigation matters, including implementation of tax audit strategy to effectively manage risk.
  • Liaise with the Company’s tax consultants on all matters and provide necessary support to them for timely response to tax queries and resolution of all tax audits and investigation
  • Work with the Tax Consultant to ensure the company remains on the GRA list of withholding tax-exempt entities.
  • Co-ordinate the documentation of the Company’s Transfer Pricing policy and any update thereto from time to time, and work with the appropriate personnel of the Company to ensure compliance with the Transfer Pricing (TP) Regulations as necessary.
  • Liaise with the Company’s tax consultants to obtain fiscal incentives, clearance certificates, grants and benefits as the Company may be entitled to from the appropriate Government agencies and ensure their efficient utilization.
  • Develop, articulate and implement the Company’s tax strategy, evaluate and monitor progress thereon periodically.
  • Review all contracts to ensure tax efficiency and optimization and seek advice from the Company’s tax adviser’s and consultants as appropriate.
  • Manage all tax risks associated with the Company’s business and tax related regulatory reporting disclosures
  • Work closely with other departments to provide proactive tax advice regarding impacts of business activities and transactions.  Includes proactively building relationships with peers in Supply Chain, A/P, Finance, Business Planning, Legal and Government Relations.
  • Advise the Company on changes in tax laws and regulations and analyze the impact on the business and its response thereto.
  • Coordinate the receipt and giving out of withholding tax certificates to vendors.
  • Submit monthly tax roll forward, cash tax in TM1 and running a tax provision in Oracle as part of the monthly closing.
  • Prepare quarterly report on tax forecast, Siterra source tax provision and other corporate tax related issues.
  • Liaise with Treasury for the settlement of intercompany loan interests and other intercompany payables
  • Assist HQ with adhoc requests


Competencies:

  •  Working knowledge of IFRS
  • Knowledge in Tax and Audit procedures
  • Keep an update knowledge in tax laws, regulations and amendments
  • Proficiency in ATCGHL relevant systems
  • ATCGHL Product and Service Offerings
  • Strong relationship-development skills resulting in long term mutually beneficial client relationships.
  • Self-motivated; Able to work both independently to complete tasks and respond to department requests, as well as collaborating with others to utilize resources and knowledge of others in identifying quality solutions.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, particularly Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organization, planning and project management skills; ability to prioritize tasks for both self and team to meet business requirements and deadlines.
  • Strong leadership skills: Ability to drive and motivate self to achieve results within the department.
  • Ability to work in a time-sensitive and high-volume environment
  • Ability to drive work both independently toward the successful attainment of department goals and project completion dates, and as part of a team to leverage input and knowledge base of others within the company in providing well rounded and thoughtful information and solutions.
  • Ability to identify key contacts for follow up; excellent ability to communicate project and status updates to team and cross-functionally to ensure understanding.
  • Good strategic and problem-solving skills to effectively influence decision making in key negotiations.


Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics and/or related field
  • Qualified Chartered Accountant is preferred
  • Professional qualification in Taxation, a plus
  • Minimum 5 years tax consulting experience or 8 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Experienced in Oracle financials and advanced Excel is an added advantage
  • Good accounting knowledge of income statement, balance sheet and statement of cash flows required

 

Environment:

  • Approximately 90% performed in climate-controlled internal office environment working under normal office conditions. Approximately 5% travel may be required in support of the position’s responsibilities.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; stand; walk; use hands and finger to feel and handle; reach with arms and hands; talk and hear.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, and crouch; lift weight or exert a force up to a maximum of 25 kilos.
