Maintenance Manager

Job Summary

A leading Mining Contracting Firm is seeking an experienced and self-motivated Mechanical Engineer to join their dedicated team as Maintenance Manager. The job holder will assume overall accountability for personnel, budget and resource management and ensure the availability of equipment, including fleet of heavy duty, light vehicle and ancillary equipment in order to achieve maximum production in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner.

Job Description/Requirements

Key Accountabilities:


1. Maintenance Management

  • Ensure all equipment are properly serviced and maintained.
  • Prepare work schedules and ensure that the mine equipment is run to give the best economic return.
  • Coordinate all maintenance activities with other departments to ensure production requirements, qualitative and quantitative maintenance KPIs are met.
  • Manage resources and ensure equipment are available to meet budgeted operations and maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure preparation and submission of monthly reports to appropriate officials.
  • Ensure warranty claims are properly triggered as and when justified, and followed up until claims are honored.

2. Maintenance Planning/Scheduling

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the maintenance functions across all operational sites.
  • Establish and manage maintenance section goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures which result in optimal reliability, productivity improvement and operating cost effectiveness.
  • Be accountable for the effective planning and achievement of goals through ongoing monitoring of activities.
  • Take appropriate measures to ensure that risks (business, safety, environmental, health, etc.) impacting the maintenance operations are managed in order to yield desired results.
  • Review the use of reliability analysis tools including reliability centered maintenance optimization, defect elimination and root cause analysis.

3. Financial Management

  • Appropriately manage the capital program for the maintenance section.
  • Manage maintenance budgeting and ensure effective cost control of maintenance cost centers, and produce reports for management.

 

 

Required Education, Experience, Skills and Competencies:


Education

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Maintenance Engineering, or equivalent
  • Financial, commercial and project management through work experience and courses
  • Advanced knowledge in maintenance principles and industry standards, work management process, planning and scheduling of equipment.

Legal Requirement

  • Must possess Engineering Manager Certificate of Competency from the Mineral Commission of Ghana

Experience

  • A minimum of 15 years post national service mining operations experience in maintenance plant management or supervisory role, having spent the last 8 years in a management role managing a large group of diverse employees.
  • Experience in managing budgets and resources for a large and complex fleet of equipment.
  • A working knowledge of Pronto ERP system will be an advantage.

Technical Skills

  • Strong maintenance competencies in fixed plants and mobile equipment
  • Sound project management skills
  • Should have analytical skills to be able to evaluate information and solve complex problems.
  • Detail-oriented to understand complex systems, and recognition that a minor error can cause major problems.
  • Commercially astute and able to work effectively with third parties.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Project and Excel
  • Must be able to communicate about technical issues both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge in the mining industry best practices.
  • Knowledge in OEM legalities and mining regulations
  •  Demonstrated understanding of good engineering practices and the implementation of proactive maintenance strategies.
