Job Summary
Provides tactical input and direction to the health, safety and environment approach for the mine operations. Supports department line leaders in adopting and executing the health, safety and environment business plan. Drives the effective and appropriate implementation of health, safety and environment programs, process, and tools. Leads the coaching and development of the mine’s health safety and environment team to achieve desired outcomes

Job Description/Requirements
Essential Duties:
- Carry out all statutory duties including liaising with the Mines Inspectorate, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to improve health, safety and environmental performance.
- Guide and coach line leaders to eliminate all workplace injuries and illness through a focus on safety leadership, fatality elimination, employee engagement and fitness for work.
- Lead and manage all contractors and subcontractor health, safety and environment team, holding them accountable to the assigned KPIs.
- Develop, implement and monitor health, safety and environmental programs in line with the HSE development Plan.
- Manage and direct the health and safety component of the hazard identification, risk reviews and risk register for the underground operations, as well as monitor and manage industrial hygiene program for underground.
- Analyze data from event investigations, observations, inspections, and other sources and develop reports and develop solutions to improve health, safety and environmental performance.
- Lead the facilitation of the investigation, analysis and reporting for significant potential events and reportable injuries.
- Lead the health, safety and environmental auditing on Site.
- Design and deliver health, safety and environment programs that are aligned with best practice.
- Provide oversight of the Site Emergency Response Plan and
- Rescue team, and liaise with external agencies, contractors, consultants and suppliers
Training And Experience:
Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Safety or related field
- Holder of Health & Safety Superintendent’s Ticket is a must
- A Master’s degree, or post graduate qualification in health and safety and environment or NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent is an advantage
- Strong command of English language (spoken and written)
Experience:
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in health and safety with understanding of surface mining risk management.
- Minimum of 4 years in a supervisory/ area lead role or working with senior leadership teams
- Experience designing, developing, and implementing health, safety and environment related programs and processes
- Conversant with ISO 45001:2018 – occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system, and ISO 14001 – environmental management system (EMS).

- Auditing qualifications
- Excellent computer skills using office software such as Excel, Word, and Power Point
- Ability to identify problems, make decisions, create solutions, and act
- Ability to train and coach others
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse work group
- Current Driver’s License
