Lancaster University Ghana is seeking an experienced, proactive, and dynamic professional to join our team as Director-Teaching and Learning Developer. This role involves overseeing academic skills and English proficiency, strongly emphasizing academic writing.
Job Summary: The Director -Teaching and Learning Developer will be responsible for developing and delivering our academic skills curriculum, ensuring that students excel in academic reading, writing, critical thinking, and English proficiency. This role requires a passion for student success and a commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance students’ academic skills and English proficiency.
- Support students in strengthening academic reading, writing, critical thinking, listening, and note-taking skills.
- Provide guidance and support to students to improve learner skills such as time management and revision strategies.
- Design and present academic skill workshops and seminars.
- Offer 1:1 consultation for students through drop-in visits or appointments.
- Develop relevant and student-centric materials to promote academic success and increase the visibility of the Academic Success Centre, both online and within the LUG community.
- Collaborate with academic staff to integrate academic skills development into the curriculum.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of academic skills programs and initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience:
- PhD from a reputable tertiary institution in English with competence in academic writing.
- An internationally recognized English language teaching certificate (e.g., Cambridge CELTA, Trinity TESOL).
- A minimum of three years’ post-teaching qualification relevant work experience, preferably in a Higher Education Institution (HEI) or English for Academic Purposes (EAP).
- Proven experience in academic writing and the development of teaching and learning materials.
- Proficient in IT, especially Office applications, and use of the Internet.
- Excellent administration, communication, and presentation skills.
- Strong interest in helping students reach their potential.
