Job Summary

A multinational company with its subsidiary in Ghana is looking to recruit a qualified Community Relations Officer to maintain good relations between the company and the surrounding local communities.

  • Minimum Qualification: MBA / MSc
  • Experience Level: Management level
  • Experience Length: 10 years

Job Description/Requirements


  • Establish a structured form of continuous dialogue with local stakeholders for all estates, identify and manage potential and existing disputes
  • Establish and maintain a dialogue with appropriate regulatory authorities
  • Implement and monitor management programs based on social impact assessments (SIAs) and resulting mitigation plans; land acquisition and resettlement action plans; livelihood restoration plans; free, prior, and informed consent (FPIC) processes; community high conservation value (HCV) assessments and management plans; smallholder development
  • Implement FPIC processes (including participatory mapping, social agreement…)
  • Participate in communication and environmental awareness /education programs
  • Follow up social/livelihood projects
  • Conduct socio-economic studies if needed
  • Ensure the good implementation of communication procedures with communities
  • Ensure the good implementation of grievance procedures with communities
  • Ensure the good implementation of compensation procedures with communities
  • Keep a record of every meeting with the local population
  • Keep record of every grievance or conflict with communities
  • Keep and update the company list of stakeholders (if asked by management)
  • Collect social data for the CSR KPIs
  • Participate in the writing of the monthly sustainability report (relation with communities)
  • Inform and train internal management on the CSR objectives
  • Develop and expand relationships with community leaders
  • Carry out periodic research or survey in the local communities to determine the perception of the local people toward the organization
  • Foster community relations through events and involvement in communities
  • Support the organization’s business goals by raising awareness in the communities.
  • Report all non-conformities with external social principles and indicators of certification standards or policies
  • Implement corrective actions of non-conformities regarding external social indicators of certification
  • Centralize conformity evidence when it comes to relations with communities
  • Report all non-conformities with external social principles and indicators of certification to MD, HSE, and GSM.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • An Advanced Degree (post-graduate degree) in the social/applied sciences or other relevant disciplines such as rural development
  • At least Ten (10) years working experience in related fields
  • Working knowledge in budget preparation and administration
  • High level interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to speak the Twi local language is obligatory
  • Ability to develop strategic plans and establish specific targets using logic and reasoning to resolve problems;
  • Ability to handle conflict, confrontation, and interpersonal situations in such a manner as to solve the problem and sustain positive relationship;
  • Ability to think strategically and to change the status quo
  • Ability to make effective presentations;
  • Ability to coach and mentor others and be enthusiastic about seeing others grow;
  • Ability to monitor performance effectively.
  • Must be able to work in a remote area
