Business Intelligence Director (Accra, Dakar, Abidjan, Bamakou)

Job Summary

Are you excited about working for a scale up, social enterprise creating impact on local communities? We are looking for a Business Intelligence Director to cultivate a data-driven decision making culture in the entire organisation through the use of data analytics, data visualization and data modelling techniques and technologies. To be successful this role will set out and develop BI and data analytics strategy for the short and long term, manage the Group Reporting Manager who leads the Reporting team and the Group Planning Manager to successfully shift the team into a Business Intelligence centre of excellence. A big opportunity for PEG is to move from push to pull reporting and standardize ways of storing and collecting data. Vision and execution of processes to get there across multiple countries is needed. Also investing in powerful BI tools to enhance visibility of performance and report on trends and business insights are important. We collect a lot of data and want to leverage more from it, you as the director will lead this transition.

Candidate Attributes

  • You have a strong sense of work ownership and understand how to foster and manage ownership in colleagues.
  • You are an excellent communicator, speaking the language of analytical and technical teams, as well as the business across finance, sales, operations, and customer experience. You have experience and comfort communicating with the entire range of company personnel, from data entry interns to C-suite.
  • You are fluent in both English and French and can embed yourself in the culture of any of our markets.
  • You have experience of working in global analytics teams across geographies and have demonstrated strong business understanding and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent analytic and forecasting ability.
  • You are an advocate of using data to make better decisions.
  • Your belief and execution in investing in the right people to grow the department will be instrumental for success.



Functional Competencies

  • BComm or BSc degree / diploma (Mathematics / Applied mathematics / Statistics / Business Informatics preferred) or relative work experience.
  • Extensive leadership experience and strong teaming abilities.
  • Ability to self-manage while managing assigned teams and projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple business initiatives in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Excellent presentation skills that encompass clear, compelling communications.
  • Structured mindset, self motivated and willing to expand knowledge.
  • Strong ability to multitask and prioritize, plan and execute.
  • Knowledge of technological trends to build strategy (Eg. Awareness of Data Warehouse and Data Marts / Cubes, Visualisation, ERP/CRM Systems).
  • Experience in process improvement and design thinking is advantageous.
  • Startup Fintech Experience will be great.


Technical Competencies

  • Advanced BI and Data Visualisation tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, Qlik.
  • Basic SQL ability in order to write database queries to extract data and some basic scripting language like Python for data manipulation.
  • Proficiency with ERP and/or CRM systems (preferably Odoo).
  • Expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel or Google Suite, and collaboration tools like Slack or Jira are advantageous.


Responsibilities

  • Mentor and Coach our Reporting / Analytics and Strategic Planning (SP&A) Teams
  • (Over) communicate on KPI and company performance and create a culture of reckoning
  • Develop data and analytical aspects of the technology strategy to ensure alignment with its business goals
  • Direct and oversee high level strategic and tactical decisions for business intelligence tools and applications
  • Help departments use data profitably and to enhance business decision making capabilities
  • Build quality assurance and data analytics processes
  • Act as the primary liaison for FP & A (Financial Planning & Analysis) and other key strategic planning teams
  • Oversee reports and insights that are distributed externally to investors
  • Communicate BI strategy to partners and investors
  • You understand and champion single source of truth mentality
