Insurance-related approaches are increasingly gaining significance as the financial consequences of weather-related risks need to be reduced. The programme "Promoting Integrated Climate Risk Management and Transfer Approaches" (ProCliMaT) is concentrating on the role of (re)-insurance within an "Integrated Climate Risk Management" (ICRM) approach, which was jointly developed by the Munich Climate-Insurance Initiative (MCII) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

Job Description

Financial services

  • Monitor income, expenditure and the monthly bank reconciliation
  • Manage the processing of requests for project funds
  • Monitor real accounts (payables, receivables) and reports regularly to the officer responsible for the contract and cooperation and the accounting manager
  • Ensure realistic receivables list at all times

Internal control

  • Check the vouchers and receipts submitted by advisors for completeness and allocation to cost units and categories, and corrects these where necessary
  • Advise on financial aspects of projects
  • Carry out internal controls in accordance with GIZ’s internal controlling manual
  • Travel claim calculation
  • Prepare travel claims for partners when necessary
  • Prepare transport costs for partners when necessary
  • Calculate national travel claims
  • Calculate national travel advances
  • Follow up on pending travel advances and ensures refunds are made where necessary GIZ GHANA - JOB ADVERTISEMENT Snr. Finance Officer - Accounting Professional
  • General services of GIZ-assisted projects/programmes
  • Carry out accounting tasks using WINPACCS accounting software and prepares monthly end-of-          period accounts and bank reconciliation vouchers
  • Submit the end-of-month accounts from the project accounting, cash books and account balance vouchers (through or from WINPACCS) to the Head of Finance & Administration for approval and forwards them to GIZ Country Office
  • Routinely monitor costs in accordance with project requirements
  • Prepares quarterly/annually analyses of expenditure compared to total project budget (budget monitoring)
  • Audit project accounting
  • Report all problems with financial administration and compliance without delay ▪ Is responsible for filing in accordance with GIZ rules
  • Perform other duties and tasks at the request of management

Qualification and Requirements

  • MSc/MA in accounting, finance or similar area
  • At least 5 years’ professional experience in a comparable position
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting software (WinPACCS and Cashbook)
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
  • Confidential handling of data and information
  • Very good knowledge of the English language, ideally a knowledge of German
  • Good team player
  • Result oriented performance

  • Very good communication skills
  • Proactive attitude towards work, personnel and institutional changes
  • Punctual attitude
  • Willingness to update skills as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
