Location: Accra, Ghana

Reporting To: Country Director

Compensation: 2000-3000 GHS/monthly (Gross)


Days for Girls’ mission is to reverse the cycles of poverty and violence by building efficient, direct and effective means for girls and women worldwide to improve their dignity, health and standing in their communities with access to sustainable menstrual health management and reproductive health knowledge for Every Girl. Everywhere. Period.  


Days for Girls West Africa is a registered non-governmental organization that is committed to empowering women and communities by promoting access to menstrual health management options and reproductive health knowledge.  

The organization utilizes a multi-pronged approach to achieve its mission. Days for Girls’ mission focuses on embedding solutions to challenges created by lack of menstrual health management materials and reproductive health knowledge by partnering with local grassroots organizations and conducting comprehensive training and mentoring programs. This mission is powered by our three tier model offering locally made, high-quality washable menstrual hygiene kits, reproductive health education training, and women-led enterprise development. Our current priorities include strengthening our program delivery through regular evaluation, assessment and refresher trainings of our program staff, creation of follow-up support resources for program participants, and improved monitoring and evaluation systems. 

Job Summary

Days for Girls West Africa (DfG West Africa) is seeking a highly motivated and talented candidate for a Program Officer position to support DfG West Africa strategic management in the areas of program development, implementation, monitoring and reporting. The Program Officer is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of current and new Days for Girls West Africa Programs. S/he will line manage select program support staff.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Program Oversight

  • Develop proposals for programs that will successfully transition Days for Girls training and distribution programs to more long-term development programs;

  • Represent Days for Girls and liaise with local and national authorities, NGOs, and businesses to promote DfG programs, facilitate successful coordination of activities and ensure transparency and accountability to all stakeholders;

  • Provide technical inputs and assistance to programs with particular reference to financial management and reporting systems;

  • Oversee the preparation and submission of annual activity-based project budgets;

  • Participate in strategy development conversations with DFG West Africa leadership team; 

  • Ensure project activities comply with the policies and regulations of the donor organization;

  • Ensure close collaboration and coordination with cooperating partners to guarantee smooth implementation of activities and achievement of results as specified in grant agreements.

Program Development

  • Responsible for assisting in the strengthening and expansion of DfG West Africa programs;

  • Responsible for supporting the development and execution of project deliverables, coordination of project planning, budgeting, action plans and monitoring processes;

  • Draft and editing proposals for funded and funding programs and special projects;

  • Track project implementation and support DfG response to changes in context, beneficiary needs, and donor positioning;

  • Support the development of internal and external reports, including: reporting templates, setting deadlines, coordinating input, and final editing and review;

  • Produce accurate and timely reporting of program status throughout its life cycle;

  • Employ resourcefulness in project design, implementation and monitoring;

  • Trouble shoots project problems. Identifies and implements creative solutions.

Training / Capacity Building

  • Coordinate DfG trainers to plan, implement, and deliver training and education programs in strategic program areas in Ghana and throughout West Africa;

  • Work closely with the Program Assistant to coordinate with partners, organize training logistics, deliver training material, and train contract-basis trainers;

  • Provide capacity building support to our in-country team and strengthen the operational systems of the organization on the ground;

  • Assist with facilitation of reproductive health and entrepreneurship training;

  • Provide support to Days for Girls enterprises in West Africa.


Advocacy & Outreach

  • Work with program and finance department to ensure the coordination of programs;

  • Represent the organization at task force meetings, internal and external coordination meetings;

  • Interface with national government and/or donors to ensure mutual understanding of programs and maximize resource distribution and allocation of available funds;

  • Participate in partnership development and donor meetings as needed


  • Bachelor degree in business, international development, public health or a related field

  • Experience working in a non-profit or NGO setting

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to work independently within a small team

  • Flexible and professional individual who is capable of taking the initiative

  • Expert project management and cross-cultural communication skills

  • Proven expertise in program and grants management

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills

  • Competency in G Suite applications (Gmail, Google Docs), Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

  • Creative problem solver

  • Language proficiency in English and Twi

  • Committed to working with DfG for a minimum of 2 years

Desired Competencies

  • Experience working in a start-up environment 

  • Experience managing a team and reporting to senior leadership and international HQ 

  • Familiar with project and/or relationship software like Salesforce, Quickbooks, or Trello

  • Demonstrated ability to teach/facilitate training programs with diverse populations

  • Proactive leader

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally

  • Experience working in the field of sexual reproductive health, girls education, or women’s empowerment

  • French language proficiency of business or native level

  • Willingness to work longer hours and weekends

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be asked to lift packages or supplies up to 7kg.

Work Authorization

For this position, candidate must have the ability to legally work in Ghana, without sponsorship.
