Job Description

The Market Oriented Agriculture Programme (MOAP) is implemented on behalf of the Federal German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union (EU). MOAP operates in Ghana`s South and Middle Belt in 20 districts among 4 regions and is mainly supporting

four value chains (mango, pineapple, citrus and vegetables). Additionally, MOAP is active in 14 districts among 2 regions in the North West, supporting seven value chains (cashew, groundnuts, mango, rice, sorghum, soybeans and vegetables). The programmes aim is to strengthen the

competencies of producers, processors and other value chain related private enterprises as well as public authorities on national and district level. MOAP works with a demand-driven approach to develop the value chains and supports market linkages of producers and processors via certification, inclusive business models (IBM) and advice for product design. The MOAP M&E team based in Accra is responsible for the overall monitoring of the project both in the South and in the North West. It strongly cooperates with the technical advisors of the different outputs for the continuous monitoring process and supports them in data collection and analysis as well as the development and continuous improvement of the monitoring tools. MOAPs monitoring system is results oriented and tries to track not only activities but also their impact, successes and lessons learnt. It communicates the programme ́s results and supports the internal and external communication of MOAP.

Job Location: Accra, Greater Accra

Job Description

Data collection, analysis and management; Communication

  • Supports the regular update and management of the M&E data together with the M&E team in the programme ́s M&E tools, including, Excel, DMS and the Results Monitor
  • Supports and accompanies the procurement and implementation of external surveys
  • In collaboration with the M&E team, prepares and carries out other technical functions such as: developing survey instruments, conducting field trials, spot checks and internal data collections, training partner staff, organisational preparation in the field and data verifications
  • Contributes to the research needs of the project
  • Conducts regular field trips to the project regions BAR, CR, ER, VR as well as NR and UW
  • Contributes to the development of project fact sheets and other documents for the programme communication
  • Supports the communication team in the development of communication material and organisation of events

Coordination and reporting

  • Responsible for planning, coordinating and documenting meetings, workshops, seminars and other project activities with a focus on M&E and communication
  • Familiar with GIZ planning, implementation and reporting procedures and their changes
  • Contributes to the M&E presentations in technical, steering committee and other meetings
  • Responsible in drawing up reports to the projects’ partners and donors
  • Organizes and follows-up on internal project activity reporting

Any other duties

  • Represents the interest of the GIZ assisted measure and always acts on its behalf
  • Performs other duties and task at the request of his/her superior or management

Qualification and Requirements

  • Minimum of Master’s degree in the social sciences such as economics, agricultural economics, geography, statistics, development planning or an area that is related to the project /programme objectives
  • At least 2 years work experience in a comparable position
  • Proven skills in research and report writing
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge in quantitative analysis
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Experience with working in multicultural environment, with good interpersonal relationship and negotiation skills

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • Good working knowledge on GIZ procedures and M&E processes
  • Good working knowledge of ICT technologies and computer applications (e.g. Excel, SPSS, ArcGIS or another database programme)
  • Ability to analyse large datasets
  • Excellent knowledge of English, knowledge of German an asset
  • Willingness to update skills as required by the tasks to be performed
  • Strong managerial and organisational competence
  • Willingness to travel regularly
