Job Description

Maagrace Garment Industries Limited is an apparel manufacturing firm created in 2003. Maagrace’s vision is to become the largest high-quality mass production garment producer in West Africa. Through innovation, efficiency and integrity, they provide the best quality products to customers while empowering their workforce, especially women. Maagrace also has a Foundation focused on alleviating poverty within its neighboring communities. 

 Maagrace is partnering with Ethical Apparel Africa (EAA), a sourcing company that provides international apparel brands with ethical, cost competitive and quality manufacturing solutions in West Africa. EAA’s vision is to demonstrate that ethical manufacturing can and should be done at scale, not just associated with luxury or expensive product. Based in Ghana and Benin, EAA has a dynamic team bringing decades of experience from around the world in product development, quality assurance, account management, social impact, operations and finance. EAA works with West African factories to build technical and ethical standards to international standards. Their clients are international brands mostly from Europe and the USA interested in growing a manufacturing base in Africa with a positive social and environmental impact

Job Location: Koforidua, Eastern Region


Job Description

●     Human Resources strategy

  • Develop and monitor overall HR strategies, systems, policies and procedures across the organization
  • Own the effective communication and reinforcement of policies and procedures across the Company
  • Oversee and manage a performance appraisal system that drives high performance

●     Recruitment and on-boarding

  • In collaboration with Maagrace’s General Manager, develop a recruitment plan for operators based on the production needs of the business
  • Develop a strategy for advertisement to attract candidates in line with workforce recruitment needs, keeping an active pipeline database updated at all times
  • Conduct interviews assessing candidates’ aptitude for specific job descriptions, including assessments of trainability, dexterity and job readiness via practical tests
  • Recommend candidates for job best fit and communicate recruitment results to candidates
  • Clearly communicate expectations of each role in terms of performance, efficiency and behaviors
  • Plan and conduct new employee induction procedures, including completing all required paperwork and reviewing Maagrace policies and Code of Conduct

●     Employee communication and needs assessment

  • Play a leadership role in establishing a positive, dynamic, and results-oriented culture at Maagrace
  • Maintain open and constructive communication with all workers
  • Continuously assess workers’ well-being and grievance via rigorous internal mechanisms and address their feedback in a timely manner in line with executive decisions

●     Employee training, well-being and empowerment

  • Assess training needs and work with the General Manager and other senior managers to plan and implement training, including soft skill training
  • Facilitate a baseline survey to assess workers’ profile and needs
  • With the support of the EAA Social Impact and Compliance team, design and conduct training sessions on health and safety and workers’ rights including anti-harassment, abuse and discrimination etc.
  • Working with external trainers, support the implementation of empowerment programs for workers such as health education and leadership training

●     Compensation and benefits administration

  • In line with the local law, international recommendations, and company policies, administer compensation and benefits to all workers with rigorous tracking and in a timely manner
  • Ensure full compliance with and documentation of PAYE and SSNIT contributions
  • Use technology to ensure efficient, accurate and timely payment to workers (e.g. vis secured mobile money transfers) and support the opening of bank accounts for workers

●     Employment and compliance

  • Develop, update and implement Maagrace policies in line with the local law and international requirements
  • Ensure systematic enforcement of policies at all times and conduct refresher training based on observations
  • Escalate any issue identified in enforcement to Maagrace’s General Manager and discuss solutions    


Qualification and Requirements

  • Minimum of a Degree in Human Resources or a related field
  • At least 5 years’ experience in Human Resources management ideally in a factory/ industrial context
  • In-depth knowledge of Ghana labour law and HR best practices
  • People oriented and results driven with a strong interest in training
  • Demonstrable experience with human resources metrics and HR systems
  • Proven ability to design, continually improve, and implement HR strategy with strong leadership skills
  • Excellent active listening, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Willingness to live and work in Koforidua
  • Evidence of the following characteristics: humble, self-aware, resilient, adaptable, poised, proactive, persistent, resourceful, able to work under pressure and respect deadlines, strong at building relationships and resolving problems, a team player who is fun to work with, and full of integrity
