Job Summary

Pencils of Promise is seeking someone to oversee all PoP programming in Ghana. Current programs include Teacher Support and WASH programming. You will work directly with our Country Director, Impact Manager, Impact Coordinator, SEL Consultant and local programming staff to develop materials, improve and refine current programs, adapt and oversee pilot programs, and manage logistics of implementation. You will also act as a key player among the management team to help grow overall team capacity, increase impact, and develop long term strategic plans.

Job Description

PoP Ghana Programs:

  • Teacher Support: Support teachers through workshops, coaching sessions and material provision
  • WASH: Improve health and hygiene behaviors of PoP students through the provision of WASH infrastructure and in school engagements
  • Innovations: Current innovation pilots in Ghana include E-Readers

Development and Implementation of Programs

  • Develop and adapt current PoP program models and pilot programs to be most appropriate and effective for Ghana needs and culture
  • Work with NY Impact Manager to ensure that:
  • Country-specific input is given regarding quarterly and annual output goals
  • Programs adhere to and meet PoP's global goals
  • Programs are in line with industry best practices
  • Programs are in line with Ghana’s Ministry of Education policies and practices
  • Program re-design / new program creation is considered as needed
  • Work with the Country Director to oversee all logistics of implementation for current programs and pilots including HR
  • material needs and deployments, scheduling of workshops and follow up visits, and other supplies as needed
  • Work with Learning & Evaluation team to adjust program design based on results and assessments
  • Work with NY Impact Coordinator to ensure that:
  • Timelines are created and followed for accomplishing yearly goals
  • Database information is updated and accurate (Salesforce)
  • The details of our programming are high quality
  • Work with programs team to ensure that database information is updated regularly and accurate


  • Leverage local and international NGO partnerships to determine best practices
  • Collaborate with other Program Managers across different PoP countries
  • Foster and maintain good working relationships with PoP’s current program implementation partners
  • Support the PoP teams in Ghana and in New York with marketing and development outputs as needed

Staff Development and Management

  • Work with staff to develop their managerial and programmatic implementation skills
  • Work with programming staff to improve content knowledge & communication skills
  • Build staff capacity through researching, developing and implementing professional development opportunities
  • Work with the management team to create organizational charts and long-term strategic plans as expansion and pilots continue

Qualification and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, ideally in Education and/or International Development; Master’s preferred
  • At least 3-5 years educational and/or international program development experience
  • High energy, patience, and ability to interface with both local teams and external stake holders
  • Solution oriented, critical thinker and holistic planner
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Proven track record of successfully designing, implementing, and refining programs in schools or communities in a developing world context
  • Experience in management and capacity building with an emphasis on the ability to model and support others to build strong management skills
  • Demonstrated experience (at least one full year) living and working in the developing world, Africa preferred
