Job Summary

To maintain good relations between the company and the surrounding local communities,Implement and monitor the SIAT Group Sustainability policy when it comes to aspects related to relations with Communities,Develop and submit to hierarchy (Managing Director, Group Sustainability Manager), a strategy and programs designed to represent the organization and make positive contributions to the community, especially with regards to the below aspects,Liaise between the company and the surrounding local communities in all matters of community concern,Manage and monitor the Social Impact Management Plan,Ensure compliance of the company with the principles and indicators of adopted certification standards and social indicators when it comes to relations with communities.

Job Title: Community Relations Officer


Job Location: Kade, Eastern Region


Job Description

  • Establish a structured form of continuous dialogue with local stakeholders for all estates, identify and manage potential and existing disputes
  • Establish and maintain dialogue with appropriate regulatory authorities
  • Implement and monitor management programs based on social impact assessments (SIAs) and resulting mitigation plans; land acquisition and resettlement action plans; livelihood restoration plans; free, prior, and informed consent (FPIC) processes; community high conservation value (HCV) assessments and management plans;smallholder development; grievance management and conflict resolution; community health and education; local economic development programs; and infrastructure development social action plans; with at least an update every quarter of the Social Impact Management Plan
  • Implement FPIC processes (including participatory mapping, social agreement etc)
  • Follow-up Siat commitments in terms of community project realisations (before and after the project) and ensure investment programs are guided by a long-term strategy based on clear and realistic goals
  • Participate in communication and environmental awareness /education programmes;
  • Follow up social/livelihood projects
  • Conduct socio-economic studies if needed
  • Ensure the good implementation of communication procedures with communities
  • Ensure the good implementation of grievance procedures with communities
  • Ensure the good implementation of compensation procedures with communities
  • Keep record of every meeting with local population
  • Keep record of every grievance or conflict with communities
  • Keep and update the company list of stakeholders (if asked by management)
  • Collect social data for the CSR KPIs
  • Participate in the writing of the monthly sustainability report (relation with communities)
  • Inform and train internal management on the CSR objectives

Qualification and Requirements 

  • Masters Degree (post – graduate) in the social / applied sciences or other relevant discipline, eg.anthropology, geography, social or environmental sciences, health, economics,rural development, urban and regional planning and governance
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in leading socioeconomic development programs
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and administration.
  • Effective Communication skills in Local language (Twi)
  • Information management skills
  • Confidentiality and Reliability
