Job Title: Assistant Accountant


Job Location: Accra, Greater Accra


Job Description

Administering and monitoring financial systems

  • Assist with preparation of the budget 
  • Implement financial policies and procedures 
  • Establish and maintain cash controls 
  • Establish, maintain and reconcile the general ledger 
  • Monitor cash reserves and investments 
  • Complies with national financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions
  • Accounts Payable, includes processing invoices, following up with vendors and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner. Vendor maintenance in FundEZ
  • Accounts Receivable, including processing payments, producing statement of accounts, collections on overdue accounts and account reconciliation when required. Customer maintenance in FundEZ
  • Banking, processing bank deposits, including trips to the bank. All associated finance entries. Prepare and reconcile bank statements  
  • Processing Employee expense reports, verifying expenses are within the company guidelines, correcting errors, questioning abnormal expenses and entering into the finance system
  • Invoice creation and distribution when required
  • Filing and records retention 
  • Assisting with Monthly and Year End tasks including annual audits
  • Assist with Special projects as required

Administering payroll 

  • Set up employee files 
  • Verify and code timesheets and hours worked 
  • Calculate employee salaries, deductions and contributions 
  • Enter payroll information into the computerized accounting system 
  • Calculate source and miscellaneous deductions 
  • Process pay cheques 
  • Update leave and lieu time 
  • Prepare, review and file payroll summaries, journals and reports 
  • Issue Records of Employment

Adhoc / Occasional or Peripheral Duties

  • Undertake such other duties and tasks as may lie within the scope of this post to ensure the effective delivery, management and development of Safe Water Network operations

Inter-Departmental Regular

  • Maintains daily and regular contacts with all Units and Departments

External Relations

  • Maintains contact with the heads of units and departments in other relevant institutions and the general public as and when necessary


Qualification and Requirements

  • A minimum of a degree in Accounting or related discipline, good knowledge in water management will be an added advantage
  • At least three (3) years post qualification relevant experience
  • Proven computer skills including the ability to operate computerized accounting, spreadsheet and word-processing programs at a highly proficient level
  • Ability to work on own initiative, prioritize work, handle pressure and take day-to-day decisions in the running of the department
  • Effective verbal and listening communications skills and effective written communications skills
