Job Title: Agricultural Technician


Job Location: Accra, Greater Accra


Job Description

  • Drive vehicles within and outside Ghana to convey, IRS, other staff, collaborators and visitors
  • Drive researchers to the field on research trips
  • Help with field activities including enumeration of questionnaire and on-farm data collection
  • Record trip details in the vehicle logbook
  • Liaise with Insurance Officer to ensure that vehicle documents (local and international) are valid and up to date
  • Carry out routine vehicle maintenance checks
  • Carry out vehicle cleaning and ensure adequate kitting (tools, medical box, and accessories)
  • Liaise with Workshop to ensure prompt servicing of vehicle as at when due
  • Ensure courteous and prompt attention to passengers’ needs while being conveyed
  • Ensure due completion of feedback form for each trip completed and return same to Transport Pool Services
  • Ensure safety of vehicle and passengers property
  • Carry out office admin duties while not on official trip
  • Any other assignments sanctioned by the project supervisor(s) 


Qualification and Requirements

  • SHS or equivalent with valid professional drivers’ license (Class ‘C’)
  • At least five (5) years corporate driving in an International Research Institute



  • Must have more than five years’ experience in on-farm research
  • Must be able to administer questionnaire with little supervision
  • Must be able to collect field data with little supervision
  • Be conversant with Ghanaian roads
  • Ability to drive long distance with good eye sight
  • Be mentally alert and physically fit
  • Be able to work under pressure and be ready to work on weekends where necessary
  • Demonstrate ability to speak more than one Ghanaian language


Duty Station

  • Accra, with field work travels to project sites across the cocoa growing belt of Ghana


Terms of appointment

  • This is Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position. Initial appointment is fixed term for two years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding
