In Dansoman, Pius stirred in his bed as the familiar pelting of rain hit his window. In East Legon, Edna, wrapped in her duvet like banku in polythene, sighed in relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday de\u025b, the way the rain is falling, forget.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pius: The Text Message<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

By 6:30 AM, Pius was sitting on the edge of his bed, phone in hand, staring at the grey outdoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traffic would be brutal. Trotros? Likely grounded. Uber? Surge pricing plus the risk of arriving soaked and miserable. He wouldn\u2019t make it in by 8 AM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He sighed and typed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Good morning, boss. Due to the heavy rains and flooding in my area, I may be late getting to the office. I\u2019ll monitor the situation and keep you updated. Let me know if I should work remotely in the meantime.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sent. Delivered. Tick tick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He settled in with a cup of tea and opened his laptop, just in case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edna: The Silent Vanisher<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Edna turned off her alarm without looking and mumbled, \u201cThey will understand.\u201d<\/em>
<\/em> She didn\u2019t send a message. Didn\u2019t call. Didn\u2019t even bother to text her team lead. After all, it was raining \u2014 and \u201ccommon sense\u201d would dictate that the roads were a mess, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She spent the morning scrolling TikTok, forwarding WhatsApp videos of flooding in Adabraka, and catching up on her favourite Netflix series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Company Flexibility:<\/strong> On the other hand, employers should have flexible policies in place during heavy rains. It\u2019s not weakness \u2014 it\u2019s strategic empathy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Contingency Planning:<\/strong> Encourage teams to have clear rainy-day attendance protocols \u2014 including staggered reporting, virtual meetings, or check-ins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rain may slow down the city, but it shouldn\u2019t stall your professionalism. In an unpredictable world, communication is your most reliable umbrella.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
