Job Title: Area Sales Manager

 

Job Location: Takoradi, Western Region

 

Job Description

Sales Planning and Management:

  • Set Sales plans and strategies for achieving targets
  • Sales meeting with Sales Representatives in territory; set monthly sales targets, track sales, provide incentives to reach targets, where necessary
  • Route supervision [accompany sales representatives [3 times a week]
  • Manage specific distributors in terms of stocking and re-distribution

Management:

  • Key business initiate reports produced weekly. [Track sales, truck breakdown problems, promotional activities and recommendations for improvements]
  • Supervision and training of staff

Product Knowledge and Quality:

  • Compliance with quality assurance standards in terms of shelf life
  • Flavour stability and product coding systems to achieve proper stock rotation (FIFO) put in place

Market Execution:

  • Ensure that Sales people are merchandising the products according to the VGL Way standards
  • Conduct a monthly survey to ensure that the VGL Way standard is met
  • Daily sales tracking to ensure that targets will be met
  • Daily liaison with the Operations Department - production schedules to ensure that sales targets can be met
  • Ensure that the Warehouse delivers by loading the trucks timeously and accurately
  • Ensure proper stock rotation – minimize stock write offs
  • New outlet creation
  • Ensure that promotions are effective
  • Ensure that all the coolers are properly merchandised
  • Ensure that promotional materials are in all the outlets

Market Intelligence:

  • Pricing survey and competitor activity are monitored for effective management decisions
  • Competitor activities, store activity, competitor store activity, competitive brands, competitive products identified and reported back to management

Debtors:

  • Follow up with credit customers when payments are due
  • Weekly meetings with Sales Representatives on debtors to minimize bad debts and debtor days
  • Signing off all credit sales and ensuring it gets to the approved credit customer
  • Debt verification of all credit customers to establish the true balance and necessary action taken to reconcile and balance with our books

Merchandising:

  • Point of sales materials and signage at all times properly presented on outlets in the trade in one’s own territory

Other Duties:

  • Perform any other duties assigned by Management

Self Development:

  • Personal training needs identified and discussed with Management

Decision Making Powers:

  • Empowered to conduct sales promotions in his territory within budget
  • Adopt sales strategies as the market demands with the approval of the District Manager
  • Analyse sales problems and trade complaints and then make recommendations
  • Refer problems beyond own authority to District Manager

 

Qualification and Requirements 

  • A good university degree/ master’s degree will be an added advantage
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the sales environment
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean record
